How To Draw A Car Step By Step
Even though I now love to draw cars, I wasn’t always that good at it. It took time, practice, patience, and the commitment to learn the right technique. Below you will find a simple tutorial of how to draw a car step by step… for more detailed information, I would recommend you take a look at the guide that finally made it possible for me to master the art of drawing realistic and pimped out cars, time and time again: “How To Draw Cars Fast And Easy“.
First things first, you must create a simple side view sketch off the car you want to draw. Just like building a house, this is the foundation and must be perfect, as any mistakes you make now… will show in the final image. So, take your time and use a light pencil for the initial outline, and work the side view to look exactly like you want it to… BEFORE moving on!
Once you have the foundation set, it’s time to choose the perspective. It’s as simple as choosing a perspective and marking it on the page, then draw guide lines from all the corners of your vehicle to your perspective point… be sure to use a ruler as the lines must be dead accurate. This might sound hard because I haven’t explained it in an eloquent manner, so watch the following video which will act as a visual aid to help you get started:
If you watched the above video, you should have already picked up the basics of how to draw a car step by step. The rest of the tutorial will describe these basics in written form… So, after you have set your perspective point, it’s time to expand your basic outline and create a 3D view off your car. Be sure to use your perspective guide lines to get the right proportions and shapes, and once again… take your time and get it right!
Once you have created a 3D image of your car, it’s time to have some fun with it and pimp it out. You have many options, but if you are just starting out… then simply try to replicate the car you are sketching. Add all the detail such as grills, rims, shadows, etc… until you are happy with the way things look. Once you get some experience under your belt, then you may use your creativity to produce a truly unique car image… and reproduce the equivalent of ‘Pimp My Ride’, only on paper.
Continuing to the most time consuming part of your car drawing, it’s time to add the necessary shading and color to make your image look as realistic as possible. It’s by no means a mandatory task, but it sure is well worth it when you see the final finished image. This step requires you to use varying intensities of pencils to achieve the right tones and contrast in your image, allowing you to differentiate from the rubber surfaces, to the metallic paint, etc…
This brings us to the end of my simple tutorial of how to draw a car step by step, but it should give you a great starting point and steer you in the right direction (pun intended). As mentioned, it took me quiet a while to finally get the professional looking images that I was striving for, with the “How To Draw Cars Fast And Easy” guide really speeding up my learning curve.
